নয়া পল্টনে অবরুদ্ধ বিএনপি নেতারা.....

এম ইলিয়াস আ  লীর সন্ধান দাবিতে হরতালে শুরু থেকেই নয়া পল্টনে বিএনপি কার্যালয় ঘিরে রেখেছে পুলিশ ও র‌্যাব। কার্যালয় থেকে বের হতে পারছেন না বিএনপি নেতা-কর্মীরা। এভাবে ঘিরে রাখাকে ‘গণতন্ত্র হরণ’ বলে আখ্যায়িত করেছেন বিএনপির মুখপাত্র মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর। সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক ইলিয়াস আলীকে ‘গুমের’ প্রতিবাদে রোববার সারাদেশে হরতাল ডাকে বিএনপি। কর্মসূচির আগের দিন ঢাকায় আটটি বাসে আগুন দেওয়া হয়। এতে মারা যান এক বাসচালক। একই দাবিতে গত বৃহস্পতিবার সিলেট বিভাগে হরতাল করেছিল বিএনপি। হরতালে দূরপাল্লার বাস চলাচল বন্ধ থাকলেও ট্রেন, বিমান ও লঞ্চ চলাচল স্বাভাবিক রয়েছে। ঢাকার সড়কে কিছু বাস চলছে। চলছে টেম্পু ও অটো রিকশাও। অন্যান্য হরতালের মতো রাজপথে প্রচুর রিকশা রয়েছে। হরতালের কারণে চলমান এইচএসসির রোববারের পরীক্ষা স্থগিত করা হয়েছে। হরতালে রাজধানীর অধিকাংশ দোকার-পাট বন্ধ রয়েছে। শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানও কার্যত বন্ধ। তবে অফিস-আদালত খোলা রয়েছে। হরতালের সমর্থনে পিকেটিং খুব একটা চোখে পড়েনি। সকাল ৯টা পর্যন্ত কোথাও কোনো ধরনের গোলযোগের খবর পাওয়া যায়নি। তবে নয়া পল্টন এলাকায় সকালে একটি হাতবোমা বিস্ফোরণের শব্দ পাওয়া গেছে। পুলিশ ও র‌্যাব ভোর থেকে নয়া পল্টনে বিএনপি কার্যালয় ঘিরে রাখে। কার্যালয় ঘিরে তিন স্তরের বেষ্টনী তৈরি করেছে পুলিশ। র‌্যাব রয়েছে কার্যালয়ের বিপরীত পাশের ফুটপাতে, পাশাপাশি টহলও দিচ্ছে তারা। কার্যালয়ের ফটকের সামনেই একটি প্রিজন ভ্যান রাখা হয়েছে, কাছে রয়েছে জলকামানও। কার্যালয় থেকে কাউকে বের হতে কিংবা ঢুকতে পুলিশ বাধা দিচ্ছে বলে বিএনপি নেতাদের অভিযোগ। বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল কার্যালয়ে অবস্থান করছেন। তার সঙ্গে কেন্দ্রীয় নেতাদের মধ্যে রয়েছেন আমানউল্লাহ আমান, খায়রুল কবির খোকন, নাজিমউদ্দিন আলম, মোস্তাফিজুর রহমান বাবুল, রিজভী আহমেদ প্রমুখ। ফখরুল পুলিশি বেষ্টনিতে ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করে সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, “পুলিশ ও র‌্যাবের উপস্থিতি দেখে মনে হচ্ছে, এটি একটা যুদ্ধক্ষেত্র। আমাদের অবরুদ্ধ রেখে গণতন্ত্রকে এভাবে দলন করা হচ্ছে। কোনো গণতান্ত্রিক সরকার এরকম আচরণ করতে পারে না।” বিএনপি নেতারা ভোরে হেঁটে এসে দলীয় কার্যালয়ে ঢোকেন। তাদের ঢুকতে বাধা দেওয়া না হলেও কর্মীদের কার্যালয়ের দিকে এগোতে দিচ্ছে না পুলিশ। ফখরুল বলেন, “যখনই আমরা কোনো শান্তিপূর্ণ কর্মসূচি করি, তখনই পুলিশ এভাবে ব্যারিকেড দিয়ে আমাদের সাংবিধানিক অধিকারকে খর্ব করে।” ইলিয়াস আলীর খোঁজ চার দিনেও না পাওয়ায় ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করে বিএনপি মুখপাত্র বলেন, “এখনো আমরা তাকে ফেরত পাইনি। উপরন্তু সরকারের ব্যক্তিবর্গের বক্তব্য শুনে মনে হচ্ছে, ইলিয়াস আলীকে সরকারই নিখোঁজ করেছে।” ইলিয়াস আলীর সন্ধান পাওয়া না গেলে তীব্র আন্দোলন গড়ে তোলার হুমকি দেন ফখরুল। “আমরা আজ সারাটা দিন দেখব। এরপর কর্মসূচি দেব,” বলেন তিনি।

The 3D Lyrid Meteor Shower

April 18, 2012:  This weekend, NASA scientists, amateur astronomers, and an astronaut on board the International Space Station will attempt the first-ever 3D photography of meteors from Earth and space.

"The annual Lyrid meteor shower peaks on April 21-22," says Bill Cooke, the head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. "We’re going to try to photograph some of these 'shooting stars' simultaneously from ground stations, from a research balloon in the stratosphere, and from the space station."

Lyrid meteors come from Comet Thatcher.  Every year in late April Earth passes through a stream of debris from the old comet, which has been bringing Lyrid meteors to our planet for at least 2600 years.  Specks of Thatcher’s dust hit the top of atmosphere at 110,000 mph and disintegrate in a flurry of meteors.  Most years, the shower produces about 15 to 20 Lyrids per hour.

This is a good year to look for Lyrids because the Moon will be new when the shower peaks.  Dark skies favor sightings both from Earth and from Earth orbit.

"Even though the Lyrids are not noted for spectacular rates, the combination of a New Moon and a very favorable viewing geometry from the International Space Station (ISS) presents a unique opportunity to simultaneously image shower meteors from above and below," says Cooke.

Astronaut Don Pettit is a prolific photographer and writer. More of Don's experiences onboard the ISS are recounted in his online blog.

"Even though his equipment was designed for tasks other than meteor observing, Don is a skilled astrophotographer, and we have every confidence that he will maximize the chances of capturing a Lyrid from 400 km above Earth's surface."

As the Space Station passes over North America multiple times on the night of April 21st, a network of all-sky cameras--some operated by amateur astronomers and others by NASA--will be recording the shower.  In Bishop, California, a group of high school and middle school students will launch a helium balloon to the stratosphere.  The payload floating some 40 km above Earth’s surface will carry an experimental low-cost meteor camera and recorder developed by the Meteoroid Environment Office.

As astrophotographers know, catching a fleet meteor with a single camera takes some luck.  Catching one meteor with multiple cameras, some of them on platforms moving as fast as 17,000 mph, scattered from Earth to Earth orbit, sounds more like winning the lottery.
"Actually, we think the odds are fairly good,” says Cooke, who estimates a 1 in 6 chance of a simultaneous catch between the ISS and one of the wide-field ground cameras.

If the effort does produce 3D imagery of any Lyrids, Cooke plans to use the photos to test ideas and algorithms for processing date gathered by future space-based meteor observatories.  “We’re laying the groundwork for small satellites that might one day be used to monitor meteor showers from Earth orbit,” he explains.

Cooke encourages sky watchers everywhere be alert for meteors this Saturday night. Typical Lyrids are about as bright as the stars of the Big Dipper, so they’re good for beginners.  And it's not unusual to see one or two fireballs when the shower peaks.  A good time to look is during the hours after midnight, when the shower’s radiant is rising toward its zenith.

Although the Lyrid meteor rate is usually capped at 20 per hour, better displays sometimes occur when Earth glides through an unusually dense clump of debris.  In 1982, for instance, astronomers counted as many as 90 Lyrids per hour.

"Such an outburst would be great for our experiment," says Cooke.

Amateur astronomers who wish to help monitor the 2012 Lyrids are encouraged to download the Meteor Counter for iPhones.  The app records meteor counts and reports the data to NASA for possible analysis.

2012: Beginning of the End or Why the World Won't End?

Remember the Y2K scare? It came and went without much of a whimper because of adequate planning and analysis of the situation. Impressive movie special effects aside, Dec. 21, 2012, won't be the end of the world as we know. It will, however, be another winter solstice.

Much like Y2K, 2012 has been analyzed and the science of the end of the Earth thoroughly studied. Contrary to some of the common beliefs out there, the science behind the end of the world quickly unravels when pinned down to the 2012 timeline. Below, NASA Scientists answer several questions that we're frequently asked regarding 2012.

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?
A: The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. Then these two fables were linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 -- hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012.

Q: Does the Mayan calendar end in December 2012?
A: Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long-count period but then -- just as your calendar begins again on January 1 -- another long-count period begins for the Mayan calendar.

Q: Could phenomena occur where planets align in a way that impacts Earth?
A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades, Earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012, and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.

Now, I for one love a good book or movie as much as the next guy. But the stuff flying around through cyberspace, TV and the movies is not based on science. There is even a fake NASA news release out there..."
- Don Yeomans, NASA senior research scientist Q: Is there a planet or brown dwarf called Nibiru or Planet X or Eris that is approaching the Earth and threatening our planet with widespread destruction?
A: Nibiru and other stories about wayward planets are an Internet hoax. There is no factual basis for these claims. If Nibiru or Planet X were real and headed for an encounter with the Earth in 2012, astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye. Obviously, it does not exist. Eris is real, but it is a dwarf planet similar to Pluto that will remain in the outer solar system; the closest it can come to Earth is about 4 billion miles.

Q: What is the polar shift theory? Is it true that the earth’s crust does a 180-degree rotation around the core in a matter of days if not hours?
A: A reversal in the rotation of Earth is impossible. There are slow movements of the continents (for example Antarctica was near the equator hundreds of millions of years ago), but that is irrelevant to claims of reversal of the rotational poles. However, many of the disaster websites pull a bait-and-switch to fool people. They claim a relationship between the rotation and the magnetic polarity of Earth, which does change irregularly, with a magnetic reversal taking place every 400,000 years on average. As far as we know, such a magnetic reversal doesn’t cause any harm to life on Earth. A magnetic reversal is very unlikely to happen in the next few millennia, anyway.

A: The Earth has always been subject to impacts by comets and asteroids, although big hits are very rare. The last big impact was 65 million years ago, and that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Today NASA astronomers are carrying out a survey called the Spaceguard Survey to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs. All this work is done openly with the discoveries posted every day on the NASA NEO Program Office website, so you can see for yourself that nothing is predicted to hit in 2012.

Q: How do NASA scientists feel about claims of pending doomsday?
A: For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and for all the fictional assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, we cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012.

Q: Is there a danger from giant solar storms predicted for 2012?
A: Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

আট তলা থেকে পড়েও বেঁচে গেল শিশুটি!!!

বল নিয়ে খেলছিল তিন বছরের শিশুটি। হঠাৎ বলটি পড়ে যায়। আর সেটি ধরতে গিয়ে আট তলা থেকে একেবারে নিচে গিয়ে পড়ে সে। কিন্তু আশ্চর্যের ব্যাপার হলো, শিশুটি একেবারে অক্ষত রয়েছে। গত শুক্রবার বুলগেরিয়ায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে। শিশুটিকে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে।
হাসপাতালের প্রধান সেবিকা এলিনা স্লানচেভা গতকাল মঙ্গলবার জানান, শিশুটি অলৌকিকভাবে বেঁচে গেছে। শিশুটি এক বারান্দা থেকে আরেক বারান্দায় পড়তে পড়তে একেবারে নিচে মাটিতে গিয়ে পড়ে। মাটি নরম থাকায় তার শরীরে বড় কোনো আঘাত লাগেনি। শুধু মাথায় একটু আঁচড় লেগেছে। হাসপাতালের কর্মকর্তারা জানিয়েছেন, শিশুটিকে হাসপাতালে পর্যবেক্ষণে রাখা হয়েছে। এএফপি।

বগুড়ার কাহালু উপজেলায় নাইমুল ইসলাম (১৩) নামের এক স্কুল ছাত্রকে অপহরণের পর হত্যা করে লাশ ইটভাটায় পুড়িয়েছে দুর্বৃত্তরা। হত্যাকাণ্ডে জড়িত অভিযোগে দুজনকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ। উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে নাইমুলের ব্যাগ, বই, টিফিন বক্স ও পানির বোতল।
শাহাদত হোসেন (১৮) নামের এক আসামি গতকাল মঙ্গলবার সাংবাদিকদের সামনে স্বীকার করেছেন, পাঁচ লাখ টাকার লোভে তাঁরা নাইমুলকে অপহরণ করেন। পরে নাইমুল তাঁদের চিনে ফেলায় লাশ গুম করতে ইটভাটায় পোড়ানো হয়।
নিহত নাইমুল কাহালুর রোস্তম চাপড় গ্রামের ব্যবসায়ী রফিকুল ইসলামের ছেলে। পড়ত কাহালু পাইলট উচ্চবিদ্যালয়ের সপ্তম শ্রেণীতে। সহপাঠীরা জানিয়েছে, নাইমুল পঞ্চম শ্রেণীতে ট্যালেন্টপুলে বৃত্তি পেয়েছিল।
নাইমুলের হত্যাকারীদের বিচারের দাবিতে গতকাল কাহালু পাইলট উচ্চবিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী ও রোস্তম চাপড় গ্রামের বাসিন্দারা বিক্ষোভ মিছিল, সমাবেশ ও সড়ক অবরোধ করেছে।
গ্রেপ্তার হওয়া শাহাদত ও আবদুল মান্নানকে (৫০) গতকাল জেলা গোয়েন্দা পুলিশের কার্যালয়ে (ডিবি) সাংবাদিকদের সামনে হাজির করা হয়। শাহাদত কাহালু ডিগ্রি কলেজের একাদশ শ্রেণীর ছাত্র ও উলট মধ্যপাড়া গ্রামের শাজাহানের ছেলে। মান্নান কাহালুর চারমাথার বাসিন্দা ও কাহালুর পূর্ব পাড়ায় অবস্থিত একটি ইটভাটার মালিক।
শাহাদত অবলীলায় নাইমুলকে হত্যার কথা স্বীকার করে সাংবাদিকদের জানান, কাহালু পৌরসভার চারমাথা এলাকার জাকারিয়া (গ্রেপ্তার হওয়া আবদুল মান্নানের ছেলে), ডালিম ও জামাল নামের তিন যুবক তাঁকে বলেছিল, তাঁদের সঙ্গে একটি কাজ করলে জীবনে আর টাকাপয়সার জন্য কোনো কাজ করতে হবে না। বড়লোক হওয়ার আকাঙ্ক্ষায় তিনি এ হত্যাকাণ্ডে সহযোগিতা করেন।
শাহাদতের ভাষ্যমতে, ৫ এপ্রিল সকাল সাড়ে ছয়টার দিকে কাহালুর অবজেকটিভ কোচিং সেন্টারের উদ্দেশে বের হয় নাইমুল। ওই সময় তাকে কোচিংয়ের প্রশ্ন দেওয়ার কথা বলে কাহালু চারমাথা এলাকায় জাকারিয়ার দোকানঘরে নিয়ে আসা হয়। এরপর নাইমুলের মুখে স্কচটেপ পেঁচিয়ে হাত-পা বেঁধে ফেলা হয়। এ সময় নাইমুলের মুঠোফোন নিয়ে তাঁরা বগুড়া শহরের দিকে চলে যান এবং নাইমুলের বাবার কাছে মুক্তিপণ বাবদ পাঁচ লাখ টাকা দাবি করেন। ওই দিন বিকেলে শাহাদতকে জাকারিয়া জানান, নাইমুল তাঁদের দুজনকে চিনে ফেলেছে। তাই তাকে আর বাঁচিয়ে রাখা যাবে না। এ কথা বলে তাঁকে (শাহাদত) ও শাকিল নামের একজনকে ওই দোকানে যেতে বলেন।
শাহাদতের বর্ণনা অনুযায়ী, ওই দিন রাত সাড়ে আটটার দিকে নাইমুলের চোখ বেঁধে জাকারিয়া, ডালিম ও জামাল তাকে প্রথমে চাকু দিয়ে ভয় দেখায়। পরে গলায় রশি দিয়ে দুই পাশ থেকে টান মেরে শ্বাসরোধে নাইমুলকে হত্যা করা হয়। রাত সাড়ে ১১টার দিকে একটি মোটরসাইকেলের মধ্যে মৃত নাইমুলকে বসিয়ে মান্নানের ইটভাটায় নিয়ে যান জাকারিয়া ও ডালিম। পরে ভাটার শ্রমিক মতির সামনে নাইমুলকে জ্বলন্ত আগুনে ফেলে পুড়িয়ে ফেলা হয়। গভীর রাতে জাকারিয়া শাহাদতকে ফোন করে ইটভাটায় পুড়িয়ে ফেলার ঘটনা বর্ণনা করে জানান, ‘এখন আর কোনো সমস্যা নেই।’
প্রেস ব্রিফিংয়ে বগুড়ার সহকারী পুলিশ সুপার মো. আরিফুর রহমান মণ্ডল ও গোয়েন্দা পুলিশের পরিদর্শক মিজানুর রহমান জানান, অপহরণের ঘটনায় কাহালু থানায় সাধারণ ডায়েরি (জিডি) করেন নাইমুলের বাবা রফিকুল ইসলাম। একযোগে মাঠে নামে পুলিশ। এদিকে অপহরণকারীরা নাইমুলকে ৫ এপ্রিল হত্যা করলেও তা গোপন রাখে এবং গত সোমবার সকালে নাইমুলের বাবা রফিকুল ইসলামের কাছ থেকে মুক্তিপণ বাবদ পাঁচ লাখ টাকা আদায় করে। ওই টাকা দিয়ে জাকারিয়া একটি নতুন মোটরসাইকেল কেনেন।
শাহাদত সাংবাদিকদের জানান, মুক্তিপণের পাঁচ লাখ টাকা ভাগাভাগি নিয়ে সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় কাহালু রেলস্টেশনের কাছে জাকারিয়া, ডালিম ও জামালের সঙ্গে কথা বলার সময় পুলিশ তাঁকে গ্রেপ্তার করে। এ সময় অন্যরা পালিয়ে যান।
শাহাদতের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, পুলিশ জাকারিয়ার দোকানঘর থেকে নাইমুলের স্কুলব্যাগ উদ্ধার করে। ব্যাগে নাইমুলের বই-খাতা, টিফিন বক্স ও পানির বোতল পাওয়া যায়। এ সময় দোকানঘর থেকে একটি ধারালো অস্ত্র উদ্ধার করা হয়। এরপর ইটভাটার মালিক জাকারিয়ার বাবা আবদুল মান্নানকেও গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
এদিকে মান্নান সাংবাদিকদের কাছে দাবি করেন, তিনি ও তাঁর ছেলে এই ঘটনার সঙ্গে জড়িত নন। তাঁর স্ত্রীর কাছ থেকে টাকা নিয়ে জাকারিয়া মোটরসাইকেলে কিনেছে।
ওই সময় শাহাদত বলেন, মান্নানের ছেলে জাকারিয়াই এই হত্যাকাণ্ডের মূল হোতা।
আবদুল মান্নান নিজেকে উপজেলা বিএনপির উপদেষ্টা বলে পরিচয় দেন। তবে কাহালু উপজেলা বিএনপির সভাপতি ফরিদুর রহমান জানান, মান্নান বিএনপির সঙ্গে যুক্ত নন। গত পৌরসভার নির্বাচনে তিনি স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী হিসেবে নির্বাচন করেন।
গতকাল দুপুরে কাহালুর পূর্ব পাড়া এলাকায় ওই ইটভাটায় গিয়ে কাউকে পাওয়া যায়নি। এদিকে নাইমুলের নৃশংস মৃত্যুর খবর পেয়ে পরিবারের সদস্যরা শোকে ভেঙে পড়েছে। কথা বলতে পারেননি শোকার্ত বাবা রফিকুল ইসলাম।
হত্যাকারীদের শাস্তির দাবি: এদিকে নাইমুল হত্যাকাণ্ডে জড়িত ব্যক্তিদের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির দাবিতে গতকাল দুপুর ১২টার দিকে কাহালু সদরে বিক্ষোভ মিছিল ও সমাবেশ করেছে কাহালু পাইলট উচ্চবিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্রছাত্রীরা। হত্যাকাণ্ডের প্রতিবাদে শিক্ষার্থীরা তিন দিনের কর্মসূচি ঘোষণা করেছে। এর মধ্যে রয়েছে বিদ্যালয়ে শোকসভা, প্রতিবাদ সমাবেশ ও বিক্ষোভ মিছিল। পরে তারা হত্যাকারীদের শাস্তির দাবিতে কাহালু উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তার (ইউএনও) কাছে সঞ্চারকলিপি দেয়। এদিকে একই দাবিতে প্রায় একই সময়ে বগুড়া-নওগাঁ সড়কের কালিয়াপুকুর স্থানে এক ঘণ্টা সড়ক অবরোধ করে রোস্তম চাপড়া গ্রামবাসী।

পদ্মা বহুমুখী সেতু নির্মাণে মালয়েশিয়ার সঙ্গে সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষর করেছে বাংলাদেশ। গতকাল মঙ্গলবার মালয়েশিয়ার রাজধানী কুয়ালালামপুরে দুই দেশের মধ্যে এই স্মারক স্বাক্ষরিত হয়।
যোগাযোগমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের ও মালয়েশিয়ার পক্ষে ওই দেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রীর ভারত ও দক্ষিণ এশিয়াবিষয়ক বিশেষ দূত দাতো সেরি সামি ভেল্লু স্মারকে স্বাক্ষর করেন। চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরের পর টেলিফোনে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সঙ্গে কথা বলেন মালয়েশিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী দাতো সারি মোহাম্মদ নাজিব তুন রাজাক। এ সময় দুই দেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী অবকাঠামোসহ দুই দেশের বিভিন্ন উন্নয়নমূলক কর্মকাণ্ডে পারস্পরিক সহযোগিতা আরও জোরদার করার প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করেন।
প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার প্রেস সচিব আবুল কালাম আজাদ জানান, সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষর অনুষ্ঠানে মালয়েশিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী উপস্থিত ছিলেন। পরে টেলিফোনে কথা বলেন দুই প্রধানমন্ত্রী। এ সময় দুই নেতাই পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণ সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষরকে দুই দেশের সম্পর্কের ইতিহাসে একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য ঘটনা বলে উল্লেখ করেন। একই সঙ্গে তাঁরা আশা প্রকাশ করেন, এর মাধ্যমে দুই দেশের দ্বিপক্ষীয় সহযোগিতা আরও জোরদার হবে।
সমঝোতা চুক্তির প্রধান উদ্দেশ্য, দুই দেশের পারস্পরিক স্বার্থ ও শর্তের ভিত্তিতে পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণের পরিকল্পনা, উন্নয়ন, অর্থায়ন, নির্মাণ, ব্যবস্থাপনা ও রক্ষণাবেক্ষণে পরস্পরকে সহযোগিতা। এই সমঝোতার ভিত্তিতে পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পে অর্থায়নের বিষয়ে উভয় দেশ প্রয়োজনীয় পদক্ষেপ নেবে। মালয়েশিয়ার সরকারি-বেসরকারি কোম্পানি বাংলাদেশে ২৩০ কোটি মার্কিন ডলার বিনিয়োগ করবে।
চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর অনুষ্ঠানের পর মালয়েশিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী নাজিব তুন রাজাক সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, ‘আমি একটু আগে বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে কথা বলেছি। বাংলাদেশের এই ঐতিহাসিক প্রকল্পে মালয়েশিয়ার সঙ্গে সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষরিত হওয়ায় হাসিনা খুবই খুশি এবং এর মাধ্যমে দুই দেশের সম্পর্ক আরও জোরদার হবে বলে আমি মনে করি।’
প্রধানমন্ত্রী নাজিব আরও বলেন, ‘এখন আমরা ইসলামি উন্নয়ন ব্যাংক (আইডিবি) এবং এশীয় উন্নয়ন ব্যাংকের (এডিবি) সঙ্গে অর্থায়নসংক্রান্ত চুক্তি করব। এরপর ঠিকাদার নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া শেষ হওয়ার পর যখন কাজ শুরু করব তখন সেই অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে উপস্থিত থাকতে পারব বলে আমি আশা করি।’
ঠিকাদার নিয়োগের বিষয়ে মালয়েশিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, যথাযথ প্রক্রিয়ার মাধ্যমে যোগ্যতা ও দক্ষতার ভিত্তিতে সবচেয়ে ভালো ঠিকাদারই নিয়োগ দেওয়া হবে।
সমঝোতা চুক্তি অনুযায়ী চলতি বছরই পদ্মা সেতুর নির্মাণকাজ শুরু হবে। এরপর ৫৪ মাসের মধ্যে নির্মাণকাজ শেষ হওয়ার কথা। বাসস, বারনামা, দ্য স্টার অনলাইন।
